Lathrop, North Pole register prep hockey sweeps on road

FAIRBANKS — The Lathrop Malemutes completed another successful high school hockey road trip with a 9-0 Mid Alaska Conference win over the Houston Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
The victory improved the Malemutes to 5-0 in conference play and 16-1 on the season. Lathrop opened the three-game trip with a 3-1 win over Palmer on Thursday and downed Chugiak 7-2 on Friday.
Taylor Munson had a big day offensively, picking up six points on four goals and two assists.
Ian Jensen, Brooks Poe, Dominic Shuttleworth, Alex Timchek and John Anderson also picked up goals for the Malemutes.
Shuttlworth was the set-up man with four assists on the day, while Alec Hajdukovich chipped in three and Kyle Olson had a pair. Poe, Patrick Brady and Bryan Gundersen also had assists.
Goalie Keenan Wallace stopped 11 shots to record the shutout. Lathrop had 35 shots on goal.
The Malemutes return home to entertain West Valley at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
Patriots triumph
The North Pole Patriots also swept three games on their road trip as they downed the Bartlett Golden Bears 4-2 on Saturday in Anchorage. North Pole opened its trip with a 15-2 MAC victory over Houston on Friday and claimed a 3-1 win over Palmer on Friday.
Alex Lemelin scored a pair of goals for the Patriots, while Dylan Curry and Damon Crutcher had one each. Assists went to Lemelin, Crutcher, Curry, Jordan Pascoe, Austin Woods and Donovan Drew.
Goalie Phoenix Copley stopped 14 shots to earn the win.
North Pole returns home to entertain Houston at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the Polar Ice Arena.
