Stars top Patriots
Daniel Markstrom notched a hat trick for the Stars as Soldotna defeated the North Pole Patriots 7-5 in a nonconference game at the Polar Ice Center.
North Pole coach Jason Storey said the Patriots showed “undisciplined play” throughout the night against the Stars.
“They beat us to every puck and got every rebound, and we couldn’t stay out of the box,” Storey said. “It was stupid, lazy hockey. ... That falls on the shoulders of me.”
Brandon Fischer and Sean Endsley knocked in two goals each for Soldotna, and goalie Stephen Kendricks secured the win with 32 saves.
Matt Sanford and Vance Bridgman netted two goals apiece for the Patriots, and Jared Linnell had one. Phoenix Copley backstopped the losing effort with 24 saves.
North Pole owns a 2-1 record in the Mid Alaska Conference and faces conference foe Houston today.

Lathrop, North Pole register prep hockey sweeps on road

FAIRBANKS — The Lathrop Malemutes completed another successful high school hockey road trip with a 9-0 Mid Alaska Conference win over the Houston Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
The victory improved the Malemutes to 5-0 in conference play and 16-1 on the season. Lathrop opened the three-game trip with a 3-1 win over Palmer on Thursday and downed Chugiak 7-2 on Friday.
Taylor Munson had a big day offensively, picking up six points on four goals and two assists.
Ian Jensen, Brooks Poe, Dominic Shuttleworth, Alex Timchek and John Anderson also picked up goals for the Malemutes.
Shuttlworth was the set-up man with four assists on the day, while Alec Hajdukovich chipped in three and Kyle Olson had a pair. Poe, Patrick Brady and Bryan Gundersen also had assists.
Goalie Keenan Wallace stopped 11 shots to record the shutout. Lathrop had 35 shots on goal.
The Malemutes return home to entertain West Valley at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
Patriots triumph
The North Pole Patriots also swept three games on their road trip as they downed the Bartlett Golden Bears 4-2 on Saturday in Anchorage. North Pole opened its trip with a 15-2 MAC victory over Houston on Friday and claimed a 3-1 win over Palmer on Friday.
Alex Lemelin scored a pair of goals for the Patriots, while Dylan Curry and Damon Crutcher had one each. Assists went to Lemelin, Crutcher, Curry, Jordan Pascoe, Austin Woods and Donovan Drew.
Goalie Phoenix Copley stopped 14 shots to earn the win.
North Pole returns home to entertain Houston at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the Polar Ice Arena.

Lathrop and North Pole post hockey wins

FAIRBANKS — The Lathrop Malemutes and North Pole Patriots opened the stretch run of the high school hockey season with road wins Thursday night, while the West Valley Wolfpack suffered a loss at East Anchorage.
The Malemutes posted a 3-1 victory against the Palmer Moose, and the Patriots skated to a 15-2 Mid Alaska Conference win against Houston. West Valley came up on the short end of a 10-1 score against the East Anchorage Thunderbirds.

Alec Hajduvkovich scored two goals and Brooks Poe had the other in Lathrop’s win over Palmer.
Taylor Munson assisted both of Hajdukovich’s goals — the first came at 1:34 of the first period and the second at 7:34 of the second. Poe’s insurance goal, set up by an assist from Kyle Olson, came late in the second period.
“It was a little ugly, but it was a good win coming off the holiday break,” Lathrop assistant coach Charlie Parr said. “We got the win, and that’s the most important thing.”
Goalie Trevor Evans got the win for Lathrop with a 21-save performance. Jonas Naegele had 22 saves for Palmer.
North Pole came out strong and kept on going in its Mid Alaska Conference win over Houston.
Jared Linnell, Vance Bridgman, Matt Sanford and Hank Parra all had hat tricks for the Patriots. DJ Carnley registered a six-point night with a goal and five assists.
Phoenix Copley got the win in goal for the Patriots. They forgot to mention Tyler's goal and his assist....plus NP had ten different players with points in that first game!
Tyler makes Alaska Select 16 team!
I know many of you have been wondering and waiting as we waited for them to post the list...they posted it this morning. I dont know what the dates are when they go to Seattle to play yet. He doesnt know yet....still in Anchorage. by the way NP won again last night 3-1! Close game! They play Bartlett this afternoon in Eagle River.
